DJ Koogee

DJ Koogee (Sudan)

Sudan

DJ Koogee has ability to spin tracks that have made the crowd want to shake their body uncontrollably in ways only music can. Somehow DJ Koogee makes a night full of magic, cool vibe, he is able to fill his bins with records carefully pre-planned in advance to rock a your club. And the most crafty of his dj’s? Well he is also able to watch the crowd and not only predict their taste but also to manipulate their senses to enjoy this music just as much as his self.

If you ever get a chance to watch his perform, look carefully. You’ll see his smiling and watching the crowd, and then when the music reaches it’s peak, he’s shaking it and just immersing his self into his craft and his art.

DJ To' Costa (Angola)

Angola

DJ To' Costa was born in Luanda, Angola and developed his taste for music and dance at an early age. His first influence of music came from his grandmother, who used to play the “Batuke” in one of the biggest carnival groups in Angola. His second influence came from listening to his mother’s records and her favourite singer Roberta Miranda from Brazil as well as listening to UB40 and Bob Marley and the Wailers.

His interest in becoming a DJ arose when he used to frequent the local matinee and he fell in love with mixing beats. However, this interest was not to surface properly until he left for Lisbon and visited the best Afro club there, Kandando and heard the unique DJ Joao Reis. From that moment on he knew he would be a DJ. He collected a vast number of vinyl, CD’s and tapes, increasing his knowledge of Afro as well as European beats.

His first opportunity at DJing came in London at a club named Sabura, which was run by the famous DJ Gerson Marino. From then on things snowballed. During his 16 years career as a DJ he played in various clubs in London varying from the best Afro-Luso clubs in the UK to mainstream clubs in central London.

Throughout his career he also participated in some music production, collaborated with DJ Joka Moreno as well as co-wrote some music.

Currently he DJ’s at Third Space (Stockwell), Gem Bar (Beak street- London) , Sabor (old Bailey- London), and at the Slug and Lettuce (Beckenham) . He also has a passion for teaching Kizomba and currently teaches at Third Space (Stockwell) and Slug and Lettuce (Beckenham).

KIZOMBA WORKSHOPS

Neelam Suman is one of the most sought-after Kizomba teachers in the UK.

In February 2009 she entered the Kizomba UK finals, and shortly afterwards was asked to join Studio Afro Latino (SAL). Within this group she not only taught their students but also came up with the idea of choreographing two SAL student Kizomba performances.

She has danced socially with many Kizomba masters and Kizombeiro's from Lisbon, Paris, London, Spain, Poland, Germany, Australia etc which has allowed her to develop her unique following skills and exceptional dance technique. She is one of the most popular Kizomba teachers in the UK, well known for her patience and up-beat manner. One of her strengths as a teacher is credited to the fact that she is self-taught. Her methods of teaching and her ability to break down and clarify the Kizomba, Semba and Kuduro movements comes from her own understanding and awareness of the body and movement.

To add to her repertoire, she was invited to be guest jury at the Paris semi-final Africadancar 2011 competition, alongside respected Kizomba masters.
